- Wishing Game
We'd both wish we could drive - just wanted to drive away. We wanted to go on road trips and eat lots of sour patch kids that we'd buy from gas stations. And after we'd made all our wishes we'd close our eyes really hard hoping that when we open them it'd all come true. We thought the harder we closed them the stronger our wishes would be. Even though they never came true we still liked doing it. Because the ending was never our favorite part anyways, it was the wishing.

- The Fifth Risk
If your ambition is to maximize short-term gain without regard to the long-term cost, you are better off not knowing the cost. If you want to preserve your personal immunity to the hard problems, it's better never to really understand those problems. There is an upside to ignorance, and a downside to knowledge. Knowledge makes life messier. It makes it a bit more difficult for a person who wishes to shrink the world to a worldview.
