I think that's the case with a lot of organisms in nature. Sea turtles, for example, can lay tens to hundreds of eggs at the time, but only one out of a thousand sea turtles manage to reach adulthood. It makes me feel lucky that humans have a much higher survival rate and that most people can reach adulthood.
