Person of Interest S02E11 - Pi (Adapted for text length limits) - Harold Finch

This quote was added by eagertyper
Pi, the ratio of the circumference of a circle to its diameter, keeps on going forever, without ever repeating. Contained within this string of decimals is every single other number. And if you convert these decimals into letters you would have every word that ever existed in every possible combination, your entire life story from beginning to end, everything we ever say or do. All of the world's infinite possibilities rest within this one simple circle.

This is not something which we know to be true. Pi is thought to be a [normal number](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Normal_number) but there is no proof of this.

It almost certainly is though.

> akshually, this is true of any irrational number, not just pi
This is not true of all irrational numbers. For example, the number 0.1010010001..
is irrational but does not contain the sequence '11' in its expansion.

I have never thought of it that way. Of course no one, including myself, takes the time to think about numbers in word form.
