I think that if I ever have kids, and they are upset, I won't tell them that people are starving in China or anything like that because it wouldn't change the fact that they were upset. And even if somebody else has it much worse, that doesn't really change the fact that you have what you have.

I find it useful to remind myself, when I get down in the mouth about something bad that's come my way, to remember that a lot of good people have it much worse than I do. It doesn't stop you from feeling disappointed -- I don't think it should -- but overindulging in self-pity only makes things worse.
