Text: Magda seemed to shrink before their eyes. Her adopted daughter's child was accusing her, with her cousins, all giants, it seemed, standing staunchly behind her. She covered her face and cried, for the first time in twenty years, the first time since her husband's death, and they stood watching her as she covered her face with her hands.
