We Should All Be Feminists - Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie

This quote was added by scap97
We raise girls to see each other as competitors - not for jobs or for accomplishments, which I think can be a good thing - but for the attention of men. We teach girls that they cannot be sexual beings in the way that boys are. Feminist: a person who believes in the social, political, and economic equality of the sexes.

True. We should shoot for equality, which means recognizing pressures placed on both sexes.

I read this as a brief definition of one facet of feminism; it would be impossible to paint an accurate picture of the whole rodeo in a few sentences.

Men are also brought up to believe they are in "competition" with other men to be the "alpha male" who can "obtain" the most women as their mate. Turns out first-world society is messed up for both sexes.
