Bad keyboard

Hey lads, any advice for someone typing on a $580 laptop to improve their speed? I'm stuck at 50-60wpm. The worst part is that I don't touch-type.
Sometimes I wonder when the time BCI (Brain-Computer Interface) gets out, typing becomes an arcane skill to have. We'll be considered Maguses of the IO system. We have lower bandwidth and very slow.

I think that 50-60 WPM is above average, actually, even if you can’t touch-type. Does your keyboard have bumps on the F and J keys? As long as you can memorize the general order and correct finger placements for each key while being able to quickly navigate to home row, you’re fine. I use horrible keyboards as well, but improvement is pretty gradual: keep practicing at a decent pace everyday, and you’ll be sure to type quickly and be able to touch type.

I recently needed to get a new keyboard since my last one broke. I have found the the Switch Quality is a Key Factor (a Prime example being the Grams of Force required to obtain actuation). I am also addicted to a specific switch Color (which similarly affects fluidity of motion).

You can very easily make the transition to being a Touch Typist. While the extra time & effort of your being unable to type might have a small effect in a single day, the effects considered across weeks & months ... is Massive!!

I don't touch type and I cant hit 160 WPM for a sentence but I only average out at about 104 WPM. On my laptop I'm even faster and it's one of those garbage chromebooks they give to kids in schools. My advice would to just try to type the best you can whatever you're using. I'm typing on a Dell Office Keyboard on my breaks at work and I scored 119 WPM at best on it. At home I use a mechanical razor keyboard and I can hit just slightly higher. It's like riding a bike, you don't just suddenly become worse at riding a bicycle because it's a different type. Whether it's BMX or a Barbie one with a basket and a horn, all you need is a balance between speed and accuracy and you're good to go.
