does anybody know what the Computer Usage thing means under your profile?
By gnuel - posted: 12 years, 4 months ago
probably means on average, how long do you sit in front of a computer.

It means how many hours you spent on average on the computer.

what helped me immensely was that it was giving us the step to step guidance of typing with error checking software which is a plus. all in all a good software

I use a QWERTY keyboard mainly because that is what is available at 100% of the locations I need a keyboard (Home, Work, Android Device, Internet Cafe)
I am interested in the COLEMAK keyboard layout and would like to learn another layout, maybe one day.

I can advise on a brand of keyboard NOT to buy. Don't buy Dynex. I'm using it now, and the space bar is not as responsive as any other keyboard I've used. It screws with my accuracy. Also, the numeric pad is not the same lay out as others, making 10 key tests difficult.

Laptop keyboards are the WORST!

Mechanical. Sure, they are expensive, but I get like a 20 WPM boost when typing on my Mech. Keyboard. Feels amazing, too
EDIT: I like
www.elitekeyboards.… , but most tech websites like
Newegg.com have started carrying them.

I use the typematrix keyboard;
http://www.typematr… I have the blank version and I use the dvorak layout. The blank keyboard really improved my touch typing skills. And the grid layout is really comfortable :)

Those are Cherry MX Blues. Haven't tried them yet, but I know I like MX Browns. I'll probably find a cheaper keyboard to get in blues to see.

Honestly, I don't think a certain type of keyboard helps you type faster. If there is one though, I've never heard of it.

At my school, they have terrible computers with TERRIBLE keyboards. I am very good with my keyboard at home, but the one at school is terrible.

We can type faster with the keyboard we are used to. I remember the day I first bought a Laptop PC and I was having such a difficulty in maintaining my typing speed for the first few days, but later on, I was back on track. It'll just take a day or two to familiarize yourself with the keyboard, if and only if you give time.

Most people say that the Dvorak keyboard is the fastest but any keyboard can be as fast as the other with a lot of practice

You might check out an orthogonal (square) layout keyboard, which eliminates the asymmetries that favor one hand over the other. TypeMatrix makes an inexpensive one.

I think every keyboard is the same. Use the keyboard that you familiar and comfortable with. This works for me xD

No we are not. We are talking about keyboards.

I like my laptop keyboard better than pretty much any desktop keyboard I've tried. I think it's easier to type on the flatter keys that a laptop keyboard has than on the more elevated keys that most desktop keyboards have.

Switch from cheap keyboard to mechanical keyboard does improve your typing speed. And practice too. #nuffsaid
