Feature Request: Threshold for "Instant Death Typing Test"

Short intro about me; my accuracy has recently been between 96-98% with a speed of about 47 WPM. I work with custom tests, in case you were wondering why my profile says I haven't worked for a long time.
So here is my problem; I want to increase my accuracy but I haven't really been able to do that. Some days I will write very accurate, some days I try hard but I can't. I have tried the "instant death typing test" but it didn't work. In normal typing tests (not instant death), I have reached 100% accuracy only a few times and in those few instances I was very relaxed. Conversely, in the "instant death typing test" I get very tense so I couldn't finish it even once in maybe 30, 40 tries.
I think it would be nice if we could specify a threshold for the death mode. For example if a threshold of 99% is specified; than the test would end if the last mistake reduces the momentary accuracy below 99%. This would be nice for people trying to increase their accuracy step-by-step. In my case I would probably start with a threshold of 98%.
By the way thanks for building this great site.
Also since I work with custom tests, it would be great to have this feature for custom tests too; but I don't want to make too many requests :)

I myself have a accuracy about 95% with a speed of about 64 WPM and I want to improve my accuracy as well. If this kind of mode runs, I will try it for sure!

Hey, I'll throw in my 2 cents. I honestly think you should by aiming for 100% accuracy. This has definitely helped me improve a lot. Go slower if you can't. I still wish my accuracy were higher though... I'm decently accurate on typing sites, but it drops greatly in real life usage.

If you type slower in real life, maybe you're putting too much pressure on yourself. Do what you do in practice and don't panic or overthink anything.

I find if I type slowly I can get 100% accuracy, and the best speed I can manage occasionally is under 80 WPM. If I disregard accuracy I get above that. That's only on a freestanding QWERTY keyboard. On a laptop keyboard I'm slower, so that's where I have work to do in terms of both accuracy and speed.

You can type just as fast on a laptop if you have it placed on a structure instead of your lap. Your scores are fantastic no matter what.

Hey user58845. Like, you, I have my sights on better typing speeds. TBH, my goal is 120+, so yeah, I'm definitely not happy with my current speed. I plan to reach that long term goal by basically drilling in 100% accuracy during practice. For me, short term gain, even if I can hit 100 at the cost of a slight decrease in accuracy (let's say 98% accurate), it's not worth it. I need to develop the correct muscle memory, meaning ideally ZERO errors.
I can type just as fast on my laptop, but I prefer using an actual keyboard during practice. Helps train my fingers better.

An instant death mode would be great. Though to the user who would want to use it as a training for accuracy-
I agree that it would be useful for that purpose. I suspect that the most useful tool for you, however, would be a re-familiarizing of the home keys (do you use all 10 fingers when you type? Are you able to access numbers and other symbols without having to search for them?) and non-home keys using a correct method in order to improve your accuracy. Best of luck, regardless!

I wish instant death mode would provide you with your typing speed and time at the moment you make an error. Something like, "55 wpm for 22 seconds" instead of just the graph giving you an approximate speed and no time at all. The wpm they give at the top immediately drops based on what you didn't type. I don't find that useful.
On my Apple wireless keyboard, I was always able to test over 40 wpm and usually over 50 - occassionally over 60. Now I use a TextBlade keyboard (I'm a tester) and can always be over 50, often over 60 and sometimes over 70. In all cases I'll normally have 97% accuracy or better.

You cannot set a threshold in this way. It is simple math. What is your accuracy percentage when you haven't even finished the quote? It won't work to base it on only the characters you have typed so far. If you make a mistake early, the percentage will be heavily skewed and you will instantly exceed the threshold.

Not sure who you are addressing, but why can't you calculate it without finishing the quote? You take the total characters typed to the first error. Divide the total by 5 to get the number of words and use math to adjust what the words would be, for what you completed, if done for a minute. The accuracy rate would be based on the total characters with one error. So if I typed 100 characters, my accuracy would be 99%. If I only typed 20 characters, it would be 95%.
Am I misunderstanding your point?

You're right. Then a different way to measure the accuracy would have to be used in the new "Threshold-Death" mode. the accuracy for this new mode could be calculated at any time as the maximum possible accuracy you can get if you finished typing the quote making no additional mistakes to those you already have done:
new_threshold_accuracy = 100 - (current_errors / quote_characters)*100
