Finger placement

So, I was wondering if you have to have good finger placement to get your WPM higher. I most us my index, middle, and ring finger for all the typing and my pinkie for thinks like enter and my left thumb is only used for space. I never use my right thumb.

Do I need to put my fingers on the "correct" keys because that placement disables me from typing fast.

The fastest I've typed with my own finger placement is 79 wpm.
The qwerty layout, likely the layout you typing this on, isn't well designed. So in my opinion on qwerty, it isn't efficent to conciously keep all the fingers on the homerow. over half of the most commonly used letters in english are on the top row for qwerty, so i would even say that it is better to keep your hand towards the top on qwerty. I do still recommend using all of your fingers.
