How do you type?

Do you guys place your fingers like this : http://2.bp.blogspo…
I was taught in administration in college to place certain fingers on certain keys. Not only could I never comfortably adapt to the rule, but my left hand was badly injured several years later, making it impossible for me to adhere to the norm (as it were). I mainly use only the forefinger of my left hand now, though it hasn't hindered my speed too much thankfully. Everyone has their own style, I think the old school rules are too outdated to worry about nowadays, as long as you can maintain a reasonable speed.

I will for the most part type as you are taught to when you are in school, with your fingers so and with certain keys assigned to certain fingers, but as I am no longer in school and I sort of teach myself how to type now I make exceptions to these rules at times which sometimes saves me a few milliseconds of time on occasion. The only example that I can really think of is when I'm typing merriam-webster.com, although I know that there are a lot of times that I do this.

So what I find myself doing it shifting all of my fingers on my left hand to the right for the word webster when typing "ster" for some reason or another. I simply find it a bit more comfortable. Now that I'm looking at my hands I shift my fingers to type sometimes so that s is typed with my pinky, o is with my middle finger, m is typed with my pointer finger, e is typed with my left ring finger, t is typed with my left pointer finger, i is typed with my right middle finger, m is again typed with my left pointer finger, e is typed with my left ring finger, and s is yet again typed with my left pinky finger. Although I find that I type the first s with my left ring finger and I shift everything over once I'm done typing the "om" in sometimes so that I have time to shift over my fingers while typing and there is not time wasted here. I'm sure that if I spent more time looking at how I typed that I could catch more things that I do that are like this, but I don't really feel like it. [SO I came back here to add something else that I do as I just realized something else. When I type any word like "like" where there are two letters that are placed right next to each (above and below each other) on the keyboard, like "i and k" I almost always do this thing where I will place my finger on i and just slide it down to k, instead of picking up my finger to only put it back down on a letter right freaking next to it. BUT YEA, to start off I always feel the keyboard and start with my fingers in this position, mainly because although in certain situations my mind has found it necessary to swap out the position of my fingers to speed up my typing (I do not do this consciously; I did not stop at any point in time and think about all of the words that I type and go through each one wondering if there were letter pairings in them that could possible be typed in a more efficient manner because most likely the amount of time thinking about this will be more than the amount of time I will save typing these words faster, and really I sometimes I feel as if all of this practice would be a waste of time for someone who genuinely only wants to improve their WPM to be able to save time, because the amount of time that you will spend on typing websites in order to be able to type faster will be more than the amount of time you will save by being able to type faster. I'm not saying leave this website right now because being able to type quickly is a neat little ability to keep up your sleeve say, when you need to finish an essay in no time at all or just so that you can do things more quickly. But if you are here trying to save time then you are at the wrong place. Just saying.) this position of your hands is optimal for the majority of the time. Even if it weren't there is a need to have a place from which your fingers know without a doubt that from here I know that u is right above my right pointer finger, or else you will be stuck staring at your keyboard while typing for the rest of your life. Because even if I had picture perfect memory and I could see the keyboard in my mind if I didn't know where my hands were in relation to the keyboard this image would be useless. And by the way, even though I know where every key is on the keyboard this image thing isn't really how it works. I think there was something else that I wanted to talk about but it is like 12:16 at night and I can't really remember what it might have been.

So to answer your question, yes, I do. At least most of the time I do, I just don't strictly adhere to the assignment of keys to certain fingers thing that also shows up on the image that you have a link to in the post, because sometimes it is very slightly more efficient not to.

Thank you for replying ! I have been typing since I was little and I didn't know about how you should be placing your fingers on the keyboard, so I can't respect that photo. I'm now 15 and I type 70-80 wpm. Again, thank you a lot :)
