Hi,
I just made this account and I'm wondering if this really helps improve your wpm. If it has helped you, how long did it take to improve?
It has helped me a lot! It has only took 3 or 4 days to get 35 WPM more than my current WPM!

Oh wow, how many hours do you spend practicing a day?

About 1 hour but I don't take breaks

As for me, I came here because I'd just learned touch-typing from scratch and wanted to measure my progress. I actually made a spreadsheet for each day of my first three months.

I went from 30 to 60 wpm in 5 days.
60 to 70 another 5 days.
70 to 80 another 16 days.
80 to solid 90 about another 30 days.
90 to 100 took me about a year I think, but it's not in the spreadsheet anymore.

I can't tell you how much I practiced, I didn't keep track of that. I did a lot in the first few weeks, though. I usually stopped when I noticed my accuracy going down and came back to it later. Still, it was the first thing I did when getting up in the morning and the last thing I did before I went to sleep for that time.

That's the thing, though: I guess you could improve your speed with any kind of typing tutor, but since this site is about quotes, it kept me going without having to force myself to do a certain amount of training. Some quotes are stupid, others brilliant, but never do you get the feeling you're typing just for the sake of typing, but for broadening your mind as well.

This site has helped me learn new layouts (first Dvorak then Capewell Dvorak) by having an endless supply of interesting literature to type using the nice new design.
The change of color when I make a mistake is much more helpful than an annoying noise. I am not only improving my typing but learning wisdom and wit.
