Incorrect WPM Measurement.

I'm at a point where I honestly believe this site has an incorrect method of measuring words-per-minute. Every other site I go on consistently says my average speed is 66 WPM, and here I am ranked at almost 80. I've noticed that every single backspace seems to make your average irreparable, and typing correctly seems to be rewarded with a boost to your speed value.

Even with this believe held quite strongly, I use this site continuously because it has the smoothest typing interface, and it allows you to make mistakes. Every other site seems to stop you from typing after you type a letter incorrectly, or not let you proceed until you type the correct letter; this hurts my speed and my average because I naturally backspace and fix my problems.

Has anyone else noticed this, and if so, have the developers given some sort of statement on it? I really love how real-time and unforgiving the system here is, so I'd love some confirmation as to how realistic the WPMs actually are.

I don't know, I seem to have a similar WPM on any site I go on including this site. I do notice that on the sites that stop you when you type something wrong, when I also naturally backspace whenever I know I made a mistake, do tend to give me slower WPM. This site also has countless very easy quotes or just quotes that flow very easily, which could also be boosting your WPM. But, for me, it doesn't seem to be a problem. I hope someone replies to this with another perspective.

I type between 90 and 100 wpm regardless of which typing site I'm using. I personally do not have any concerns about the accuracy of the wpm calculations of this site

You can simply measure the time and count the characters typed. You will have an approximate of the WPM using this formula: https://www.keyhero…

I think the reason is that pointed by https://www.keyhero…
The quotes are much simple and short.
In a real test you should be typing more than 500 characters minimum, my guess.

I know what you mean here. On some sites, I type much slower or much faster than on KeyHero. However, I quickly discovered that some sites use different methods to measure WPM- one of those methods being counting the characters typed and dividing that sum by 5 (the average number of characters in a word), or simply counting the number of words you can type in a minute. This can get very confusing and inaccurate, which is why you can get different results on your WPM.
Personally, I believe that dividing the sum by 5 makes much more sense than simply recording the number of words typed in one minute. Some words can be extremely short while others much too long, which can make a very inaccurate measurement. For example, on LiveChat (probably the 1st test I used to test my WPM), my WPM is WAY slower (about 30-40 WPM slower, ughh) because that specific site uses lengthy, commonly used words that can differentiate lots, and it just leads to inaccuracy.
This is why I really like Keyhero's method of counting WPM. Not only do they use the more accurate method (in my opinion), but it's smooth (just like you said!), allows backspaces (also just like you said), is easy to notice and fix your mistakes, and is just easy to type on and record your WPM. I don't think there's any better typing websites. If you want to record your WPM, I say record it here!

Thanks, everyone, for your replies! I'm glad to get others' insights into this, and I guess it makes sense that the measurements aren't exactly "standardized." I'm certainly not going to quit KeyHero because of how smooth it is, and because it provides a great practice for my typing, even if the method was incorrect!
