Is there an Addon or some extension available that can reliably turn the website into a black/gray color without affecting the typing box?
Yes, actually there a good extension both for Mozilla & Chrome. Please search for "Dark Mode" named extension.

hey you can try the 'dark background light text' add-on in firefox. It is terrific and does what you asked for. I have been using it for months and works for all websites
