Quick Fall in WPM

Sometimes it seems when I make a mistake, and have to backspace, and I then continue typing again, my WPM drops drastically. Like say, I'm going at a steady 100WPM, I make a two letter mistake, have to hit the backspace two times, my WPM drops to like 85WPM. And if I make another mistake after, it drops further. Sometimes it doesn't seem to do it that drastically.

What's the deal? I don't think it should go THAT far down with one seemingly minor mistake.

Mistakes drop WPM significantly because WPM is calculated by keystrokes per minute... when you have to backspace and fix an error, your keystroke stands at 0 during that time, causing a significant drop.

lets say you type 150 characters in 20 seconds = 90 wpm. Going backwards causes you delete and re-type, lets say that takes 2 seconds to fix - your WPM would have dropped to 80.

The longer the quote, the less small mistakes will drop your WPM. A very short quote will massively affect your WPM
