Quotes that are not quotes

I realize that aside from avoiding the ire of ASCAP by banning song lyrics, that there are "no rules" when it comes to posting quotes.

However, I am of the STRONG opinion that there is one implicit rule in posting quotes:

A quote should acteally be a quote.

In other words: Please, I beg of you, Don't Quote Yourself.

Please don't post your own thoughts, musings, rants, or pretty much anything that comes from your own head. Why not? Because without exception you will find your own thoughts interesting, but it is foolish to assume, on that account, that anyone else will.

I'm sorry, but the sheer volume of inane attempts at deep thought posted on this site as "quotes" makes using this site tedious. I want to practice on interesting things.

Don't get me wrong. I too think that I have interesting things to say. But I save them for those venues where peoples actually expect me to be posting my own thoughts, such as my much neglected blog, or Facebook.

Your chances of posting something others will find interesting is vastly improved if you stick with the vast amounts of interesting material just waiting to be mined in books, politics, historical figures, movies, the newspaper, etc.
Greetings, Mr Diers

While I understand your dislike for clumsy attempts at profundity, I think that many of the user-created quotes are fine. As of today, I have submitted 300 quotes to this site. The vast majority of them I pulled from literature, news-media, or lectures. Only two of them came from my own mind. However, one of the two quotes that I coined has the highest rating of any of my submissions.

If you would prefer a certain kind of quote, you can make it happen by submitting your own, down-voting the ones that you dislike, and up-voting those that you enjoy typing.
