Typing symbols

Hi, I'm using a Dell laptop with a board that does have the number keys keyboard on the right hand side. I know that in order to type symbols I need to use those keys but I'm lost as to how to do it. Can anyone tell me how to type out the copywrite symbol for example? Thanks.
