What really helped me improve my typing speed is practice. Practice, practice, practice. And accuracy. Always try to improve your accuracy before your speed. the one other thing is, always, always, ALWAYS type different things every time you type, in order to improve your speed as well.

When my fingers hurt after too much time on the keyboard, I take a very short break, or just slow down some, in order to let my fingers rest. then i get back to typing quickly.
