My tip to improve your typing speed is to... practice, of course. I used a program in middle school that taught me the basics, and I took off from there. For anyone who plays a musical instrument, improving your typing speed works the same way. Learn the song first. Play it slowly, perfectly. Get a sense for the timing, and practice it until you can do it without thinking much about it. Speed will come later, but you have to work on getting it right, first. Accuracy first; speed will follow. And of course, practice... practice... practice.
