Figuring out the keyboard is key. Once I learned how to type home row, the rest came naturally. The more you try to type without looking at the keyboard, the better you will get.

When my fingers hurt after too much time on the keyboard, I finish typing my sentence then stretch them out by opening and closing my hands multiple times.
