David Reed - Memories of my youth II
So Dad was taking us to Laguna Beach for the weekend. When he exited the San Diego Freeway onto the Laguna Canyon Highway, he pulled to the side, got out, came and opened my door and said, "Get behind the wheel.", so I did. It never would have guessed what he was about to say next, since I was only 14 at the time. Thinking he was gonna take a nap, I started to play with the stereo, until he said, "Put it in gear and let's go, I'm gonna nap the rest of the way". What did he just say?

David Reed - Memories of my youth
It was just Dad and I, January 1963, in Battlefield, Nevada. It was colder than, well, you know. Working, moving U-Hauls from service stations to railheads. Sleeping in hotels from Reno to Ely that had been open since the 1800's. But not that night, no sir, "No, sorry, no vacancies. We're full of hunters!". So, Dad stacked U-haul blankets a foot high on the floor of a 6' x 8' trailer, and we crawled under about six more inches of 'em! Pretty exciting for a 9 year old kid, I'll tell you!

My fingers discovered a mind of their own, and actually seemed to KNOW where the keys were! That blew my mind, and gave me some much needed confidence!
