ok and a slight closing disclaimer: this is only my perspective and NOT the objective way in which every typist improves. you might find it so that using the 1 minute typing tests starting out helps you improve better, or that the balance of accuracy to speed ratio is different for you. find what works and experiment once you feel a certain level of comfort with typing. there are great many resources around, so just look them up. off the top of my head, monkeytype, 10fastfingers, this site, typeracer, nitrotype etc.

after that, if you find that you are plateauing, you should focus on speed instead of accuracy. do this by doing a lot of 1 minute typing tests to build sheer speed and then do more quotes to make your accuracy and consistency catch up with that. that should get you to around 110-120, as it did for me. after that...(its going to be a long journey to get here already) its basically a repeat of the last step. level up speed, practice on quotes until your consistency reaches that speed and so on and so forth.

you're on the right track. quotes are a great way to quickly familiarize yourself with the layout you're using so that you develop general mastery over the positioning of the keys in a way that lets you type words you haven't ever typed before with respectable speeds. just do it consistently with a focus on accuracy and that should get you to around 90-100 wpm on quotes
