In our current patriarchy, yes patriarchy, girls are taught that they need to be pretty and submissive and that they are not capable. This is bad, but in the flip side of things men are taught that they do not have worth unless they are capable, funny, cunning, smart and so on. Women who are virgins, for example, aren't frowned upon unless they're like 26 or something. Guys, on the other hand, are seen as losers for the same reason. So many friends of mine have expressed sentiments like "your opinions are only worth as much as your bodycount" which is something you would NEVER see in female circles. Women are objectified, this is wrong, and they're told that they're only pretty faces, but on the opposite men are all in competition with each other and its very alienating
