They had a right to laugh at Columbus. On top of the fact that he wasn't first to discover America, he was a twisted and evil man who is responsible for the deaths of hundreds, if not thousands (I don't remember exactly how many) of natives that he came across. He also thought that America was actually India, despite having visiting America three times in his lifetime he died with this firm belief. The Native Americans are still to this day called American Indians because of him.
