- The message that US visa restrictions convey
The announcement by the US Department of State that it is taking steps to impose visa restrictions on Bangladeshis is not surprising, considering that the US's intentions to do so had been expressed several months ago. But now it seems quite definite that these restrictions would be implemented, although the State Department has not revealed the names of the individuals restricted. Its spokesperson has said that they include members of law enforcement, the ruling party and the political oppositi.

While visiting the Bhasantek Government Primary School, Paschim Bhasantek Government Primary School, Bangladesh Muktijuddha High School, Government Homeopathic Medical College, Dhaka Modern Ideal School, and Manarat Dhaka International School and College polling centres, no queue was seen and only a few voters voted at the above-mentioned centers. In the four centers at Government Homeopathic Medical College, 105 voters, out of 7,418 voters, cast their votes till 9:00am.

Bangladesh's economy faces five major risks in the next two years, the top three being sustained inflation, debt crises and severe commodity price shocks, according to a report released by World Economic Forum (WEF). Human-made environmental damage and geopolitical contestation of resources are the remaining two, said The Global Risks Report 2023.
