Has the world been crushed by technology?

the world seems to become more stupid now that more technology and social media has been implemented into young people's lives. More stupid people are influenced and believe everything online, and do you think this is impacting people in a good or bad way? Would it better if social media never existed?
Technology doesn't weigh anything. So, the world can't be crushed by technology.

The question answers itself; I kicked my internet addiction and I'm better for it.

On another note; I looked back on old novels/movies I used to enjoy and think the world of in the past, and some remind me of the things being pushed around social media today. I suppose it was always there but smartphones amped up the effectiveness by being readily available to the intended demographic and being a constant source of attention/addiction via interactivity and incentives to return; such as notifications and user retention strategies used by services hosted on them i.e. apps, websites, services.

Seeing Dungeon Keeper turned into a mobile game continuously powered by one's wallet was a shame for me, personally.

I'm sure it's had all kinds of negative effects, but all the evidence we have points to an increase in IQ over time (at least until the last 5 or so years), and there is no doubt that technology played a major role, if not the primary role, in this increase.

Technology is a neutral tool that can be used for both greatness and great evil. On one hand, we have a wealth of knowledge that can be acquired just by looking through a search engine. We no longer are stuck with a question; we can now simply know it. If we are confused on a subject, we can simply study it further. If you want to know how to do something, we can simply watch lessons online. On the other hand, the internet has been used to manipulate. It is impossible to know what is genuine and what is misinformation which can cause further division between groups as a result of misunderstanding. The internet has given incels and bigots a voice and a community. Of course, it is simply wrong to rob them of their voice as one who believes in free speech has to accept that it is free, but the people who believe in those things aren't as reprimanded; the people who need help don't receive it because they aren't near people who tell them that they need help. This is also true for the horrible communities that encourage suicide.
I wouldn't say technology itself has negatively or positively impacted society, rather that technology is a medium in which those negative and positive changes grow exponentially higher than before the existence of technology.

TL;DR Kind of but also not really.
