Para tu amor by user462522

"Para tu amor", Gioconda Belli.

Sentí que me miraba con amor,
un amor que seguramente me inventé yo
para no sentir el frío.

Y me envolví en ese calor imaginario
y me dejé llevar por la corriente
de tu mirada profunda y misteriosa.

Me perdí en el mar de tus ojos
y nadé entre olas de ternura
que me acariciaban el alma.

Y cuando desperté del sueño,
tu mirada ya no estaba allí,
pero el calor de tu amor
todavía me abrigaba.

Han Jisung by user442292

Han Jisung, professionally known simply as Han, is an integral member of the popular K-pop ensemble Stray Kids. Born on September 14, 2000, Han is most recognized for his talents as a rapper and his contribution as a producer within the group.

Originally from South Korea, Han spent a significant part of his childhood in Malaysia where he was home-schooled and known by the name “Peter”. He returned to Korea at 16 to chase his ambitions of becoming a singer, promising his parents that he would enter an agency within a year. True to his word, he joined JYP Entertainment shortly after obtaining his Korean GED.

Han started his pre-debut journey by creating the hip-hop group 3RACHA with fellow trainees Bang Chan and Seo Changbin, under the stage name J.One.

Han’s talents were showcased to the public during the reality show “Stray Kids” in 2017, where he demonstrated his rapping, singing, and songwriting skills. Officially debuting in 2018, Han has since gifted fans with a variety of self-composed tracks within Stray Kids’ projects like SKZ-PLAYER and SKZ-RECORD, along with a standalone song called “Connected” in their album “SKZ-REPLAY”.

In recognition of his work, Han is a credited member of the Korean Music Copyright Association (KOMCA).

Apart from being musically inclined, Han is also fluent in English, a skill he honed during his time in Malaysia. He has an older brother, suffers from trypophobia, and had once considered the path of a producer even outside the realm of being a Stray Kids member.

In 2021, Han faced backlash due to a rap song he performed around the age of 13, which included insensitive language. After the matter came to light, he took accountability for his actions from his past and offered a public apology through a handwritten letter.

What is Han known for in Stray Kids? Han is recognized for his rapping skills, his role as a producer, and his songwriting within the group. Has Han composed any songs for Stray Kids? Yes, Han has composed several songs for Stray Kids, including tracks for their SKZ-PLAYER and SKZ-RECORD series. Did Han apologize for his past controversial rap lyrics? Yes, Han issued a public apology in the form of a handwritten letter once the controversy arose. What is Han’s role in 3RACHA? Within 3RACHA, Han, under the stage name J.One, contributes to the hip-hop crew’s music production and rapping.

Han of Stray Kids is more than just a performer; he plays a pivotal role in defining the group’s creative direction through his musical prowess. While his past controversy presented a moment of learning, Han’s ongoing contributions to Stray Kids’ music and K-pop culture remain significant. He stands as a testament to growing through adversity and continuing to evolve as an artist.

Seo Changbin by user442292

JYP Entertainment’s eight-member boy group, Stray Kids, continue to exceed expectations with the release of their upcoming album, ROCK-STAR on November 10. The album follows their record-breaking full-length album, 5-STAR, which hit number one on the Billboard 200 chart and scored a win at MTV’s 2023 Video Music Award Show for Best K-Pop. ROCK-STAR introduces stunning new visuals and a rock star concept that has fans on the edge of their seats.

At just 24, member Seo Changbin, has made his mark on the music industry, with his iconic rap style and songwriting ability to thank. In celebration of the 樂-STAR comeback, EnVi has put together seven facts about the group’s main rapper, resident baby, and beefcake.

While Changbin is known as a powerful rapper with a trademark gritty voice, becoming a rapper was purely happenstance for him. When he began his journey as an idol, he started out by dancing and taking vocal lessons. It was his very own vocal coach that encouraged him to pursue rap, because they felt he had the voice for it.

Of course, the ability did not come naturally to him, but he quickly made progress, and all these years later he has various accolades to show for it. At just 16 years old, Changbin was writing his own raps and releasing music alongside his fellow members Bang Chan and Han, as the popular production sub-unit, 3RACHA. With almost 40 song credits across three pre-debut mixtapes, Changbin was well-acquainted with rap before he debuted as a member of Stray Kids. Also known for his collaborations, Changbin received a Best Music award alongside Thai artists F.HERO and MILLI for their popular collaboration, “Mirror Mirror.”

Changbin made his fierce rap, raspy cadence, and quick wit his charms — qualities fans understandably adore. These very skills also got him onto season 9 of the popular rap survival show, Show Me the Money, amidst hectic promotion schedules. The show features various rappers — rising stars or well-known — competing for the title of best hip-hop entertainer. From the moment he appeared on the show, Changbin faced backlash for being an “idol rapper,” which is frowned upon in the K-hip-hop scene. Still, Changbin gave his all to the competition and showed great pride in being an idol. His opening performance shocked many of the contestants and judges who previously did not consider him to be on par with the competition.

He is also praised for his clear pronunciation despite rapping quickly, which makes it easy to understand him. Not only is the 24-year-old able to maintain this impressive level of breath control, but he has been praised several times by fans for sounding like a backing track when he raps. Changbin has even gone as far as to rap faster than his backtrack to make it clear that when he raps, it’s always live.

Intense lyrics, deep voice, flashy persona? Check, check, and check. Gentle singing voice? That’s right, check! Although Changbin is definitely known for his rapping abilities, STAYs — Stray Kids’ fandom — know that the rapper has surprisingly soft vocals when he sings.

Originally trained as a vocalist, when Changbin sings, it’s as if a switch flips and a completely different side of him is shown. Whenever he sings, STAYs are quick to cheer and immediately beg Changbin for more. In their pre-debut survival show — teamed alongside Minho and Felix — Changbin became the vocalist in the unit when they performed the song “GLOW.” This “hidden” talent is something that also landed him on King of Masked Singer, shocking the panelists once he revealed himself.

One thing about Changbin? Never play with his food! He is a foodie and is always sharing his meals with STAYs via Bubble, Twitter, and Instagram. More often than not, once he is already halfway finished. But it doesn’t matter because STAYs love watching him eat — adoring the little faces he makes and how excited he is for a meal!

For all the teasing his members do when it comes to trying to eat Changbin’s food, the rapper does enjoy sharing with the members. He is always checking up on them, ensuring they’ve eaten and doing the same for fans. He is guiltless in his love for food, and encourages others to be so as well.

Even though Changbin is a part of Stray Kids’ hyung line (the eldest members of a male K-pop group), he is the king of aegyo, or cuteness. He might be an ESFP, but we would argue that his MBTI is actually C-U-T-E. Acting cute is something most idols view as a punishment, but for Changbin, it’s a treat. When Stray Kids end up on any variety show, it’s usually Changbin that excitedly offers to do aegyo. And he loves it when the others address him as the cutest as well.

His baby voice and undoubtedly cute charms have earned the rapper the nickname “Baby Changbin,” and it’s one he owns proudly. Not only do fans call him by the cute name, but even the other members have taken note. In their Japanese track, “FAM,” after describing his various characteristics, his verse closes with the members calling out “Baby Changbin!”

One thing many fans know about Changbin is that he is a man of his word. What started out as an offhand comment in a vlog, turned into an iconic saying when it comes to the rapper. In an episode of SKZ-TALKER — the Stray Kids vlog series — Changbin was asked if the snack he was eating tasted good. Changbin immediately went off on a tangent about how they should try it for themselves and to not let someone else’s opinion sway them of what they want. Sure, at the time it was seemingly a joke — the members playfully called him cool and marveled at his faux seriousness — but it blew up within the fandom. The vlog garnered over 2.6 million views, making it one of their most viewed episodes of SKZ-TALKER.

Even other idols have referenced Changbin’s monologue, the group even going so far as to include it in their teasers, songs, and even in recent Samsung commercials. Now, Changbin is known as “A Man of Principles,” one who will never stray from his path! It’s a good motto to live by, and without fault, he seems to live by this slogan he created for himself.

While the typical build for an idol appears to be leaner, Changbin proudly deviates from that ideal. He loves going to the gym, and one thing STAYs love about his physique is his arms. Changbin takes pride in his broad shoulders, and shares with his fans how rigorously he works out. At first, it felt like fans had to beg him to release gym content, but soon he began gifting fans with vlogs, pictures, and updates.

His growing confidence as he makes progress at the gym is something STAYs adore. No doubt this praise probably makes him feel even better. At any given moment, STAYs try to compliment their idol, letting him know his hard work does not go unnoticed. Without fail, Changbin will always find an opportunity to humbly show off his efforts, especially at concerts.

Dark rapping style, foreboding frame, and menacing persona aside, at his core Changbin is sensitive. He loves to joke around with fans and his members but he never forgets to let them know how he feels at the end of the day. Oftentimes, Changbin can be seen physically caring for the members. While he does not always voice his feelings, he does not hesitate to show them.

Not only is he sensitive around his members, but he is also close with his family, particularly his sister. They joke around often, but his playful manner around her is the easiest way to show his affection towards her. He constantly tries to make others comfortable around him, ensuring they are okay before moving forward.

His heartfelt nature is shown not only in his treatment of others but easily in his music. Most of the songs Changbin has worked on for the group — and his solo projects — dive into deeper emotional states. He talks about uneasy feelings and uncomfortable thoughts with ease, translating his feelings onto emotional tracks effortlessly.

In the predebut song “If,” Changbin lets out an endless slew of anxious “what ifs” onto an ominous beat. He raps about scenarios like doing something he’ll regret to someone who disappears before he can apologize but also dissects how these anxious thoughts make him feel. On the somber track, “Streetlight” the rapper reveals the crushing weight of expectation that rests on his shoulders.

Over the downcast instrumental, Changbin sings about smiling in the faces of those who rely on him even though he feels weak. He sorrowfully states in the chorus that, like a streetlight, he stands alone, shining on a lonely night. With “Sorry, I Love You,” the rapper relays the terrible feeling of loving someone who only wants to remain friends. He divulges how one could feel punished for liking this person but refuses to stop loving them.

A Triumph of Surgery by user330753

I was really worried about Tricki this time. I had pulled up my car when I saw him on the street with his mistress and I was shocked at his appearance. He had become hugely fat, like a bloated sausage with a leg at each corner. His eyes, bloodshot and rheumy, stared straight ahead and his tongue lolled from his eyes.
Mrs Pumphrey hastened to explain, "He was so listless, Mr Herriot. He seemed to have no energy. I thought he must be suffering from malnutrition, so I have been giving him some little extras between meals to build him up, some malt and cod-liver oil and a bowl of Horlicks at night to make him sleep — nothing much really.
"And did you cut down on the sweet things as I told you?"
"Oh, I did for a bit, but he seemed to be so weak I had to relent. He does love cream cakes and chocolates so. I can't bear to refuse him."
I looked down again at the little dog. That was the trouble. Tricki's only fault was greed. He was never known to refuse food; he would tackle a meal at any hour of the day or night. And I wondered about all the things Mrs Pumphrey hadn't mentioned.
"Are you giving him plenty of exercise?"
"Well, he has his little walks with me, as you can see, but Hodgkin, the gardener, has been down with lumbago, so there has been no ring throwing lately."
I tried to sound severe. "Now I really mean this. If you don't cut his food right down and give him plenty of exercise he is going to be really ill. You must harden your heart and keep him on a very strict diet."
Mrs Pumphrey wrung her hands. "Oh I will, Mr Herriot. I'm sure you are right, but it is so difficult, so very difficult." She set off, head down, as if determined to put the new regime into practice immediately.
I watched their progress with growing concern. Tricki was tottering along in his little tweed coat. He had a whole wardrobe of these coats — for the cold weather and a raincoat for the wet days. He struggled on, drooping in his harness. I thought it wouldn't be long before I heard from Mrs Pumphrey.
The expected call came within a few days. Mrs Pumphrey was distraught. Tricki would eat nothing. Refused to eat even his favorite dishes; and besides, he had bouts of vomiting. He spent all his time lying on a rug panting. Didn't want to go for walks, didn't want to do anything.
I had made my plans in advance. The only way was to get Tricki out of the house for a period. I suggested that he be hospitalised for about a fortnight to be kept under observation.
The poor lady almost swooned. She was sure he would pine and die if he did not see her every day.
But I took a firm line. Tricki was very ill and this was the only way to save him; in fact I thought it best to take him without delay and, followed by Mrs Pumphrey's wailings, I marched out to the car carrying the little dog wrapped in a blanket.
The entire staff was roused and maids rushed in and out bringing his day bed, his night bed, favourite cushions, toys and rubber rings, breakfast bowl, lunch bowl, supper bowl. Realising that my car would never hold all the stuff, I started to drive away. As I moved off, Mrs Pumphrey, with a despairing cry, threw an armful of the little coats through the window. I looked in the mirror before I turned the corner of the drive; everybody was in tears.
Out on the road, I glanced down at the pathetic little animal gasping on the seat by my side. I patted the head and Tricki made a brave effort to wag his tail. "Poor old lad," I said. "You haven't a kick in you but I think I know a cure for you."

Support for boys by user621144

NO, the article is not about the ‘boys’ often referred to in Pakistan. It is actually about schooling and the need to think about the support that boys also need in schools.

We still have a significant gender gap in enrolments in schools in Pakistan, and it persists across the primary, middle, secondary and higher-secondary levels. According to the Pakistan Education Statistics 2021-22 report released by the Pakistan Institute of Education recently, gross enrolment rates (GER) are 82 per cent for boys and 71pc for girls at the primary level. There is significant provincial variation as well.

The above are overall national level numbers. At the middle level, GER drops to 53pc for boys and 48pc for girls. At the secondary level, the statistics are 44pc and 39pc respectively, and at the higher secondary level it drops to 22pc for boys and 21pc for girls. This is cross-section data but one can say that out of 100 boys, 82 begin school but only 22 remain by the time they reach Grade 12. For every 100 girls, 71 begin school but only 21 are still there by the time they reach Grade 12.

These numbers are terrible. Yes, there has been some progress over the years, but it has been glacial and despite the promise of Article 25A (right to education) that was added to the Constitution through the 18th Amendment in April 2010, we still have not achieved universal enrolments for schooling, and 26 million-odd children of school-going age remain out of school. More damningly, we have not even reached universal enrolment or completion at the primary level — this is after more than 75 years of being an independent country.

For many low-income homes keeping a male child in school has a significant opportunity cost.

But the numbers tell other stories as well. Our dropout rates are very high as children go through the schooling stages. If we want to ensure all children get 10 to 12 years of education, we have to reduce the dropout rates. The other fact to note is that though more boys enter primary schools than girls (82pc and 71pc respectively), around an equal percentage is left in schools by the time they reach higher secondary levels (22pc boys and 21pc girls). Which means that, over the years, a higher percentage of boys (60pc) drop out than girls (50pc). This is an important policy issue to debate. Why do so many children drop out and why is the dropout percentage higher for boys than it is for girls?

A friend, who has been working in a large non-profit for education services for the last couple of decades, told me that their organisation was quite concerned about the issue. Their information, coming from teachers, principals and coordinators working with children in schools, was that as boys grow — and this is especially true for low-income households — expectations from them change quickly and peer and societal pressures mount. The pressure from low-income households is to withdraw them from education to either join vocational training programmes that would take children to income-generating activities quickly or to directly enter the job market — at times with just primary-level education.

There are pressures on girls too of course. Puberty, early marriage, safety and the distance to school are all causes of dropping out. The pressures are different for boys, and have to do mostly with work opportunities and the need to earn.

As we have educated more and more children, the returns on education have also moved up and are now only available post-Grade 12 or graduation. When we had fewer educated people some decades ago, a person could sometimes get a job with decent pay even after matriculation. Now the same happens usually post-graduation. But for many low-income households keeping a male child in school or college for this long has a significant opportunity cost. And some households cannot afford to have sons not contributing to household incomes for long after children are in their teens. If parents feel that even after 12 or 14 years of education, decently paying jobs are hard to come by, they will take children out of schools much earlier. For boys, such pressures are very real.

We also do a poor job of providing support to our children as they go through adolescence. Boys undergo several changes during adolescence but we do not have any educational or counselling programmes in place that can help them. Nor do many schools have any academic counselling programmes. So, children have to really fend for themselves. Children from low-income households fare poorly here too. They do not have much support from their households, and if they do not get support from schools either, they find themselves at the mercy of misinformation and disinformation.

The teaching profession is increasingly inducting more females as well. Some provincial governments even have policies to hire only female teachers at the primary level. The private sector has mostly female teachers. For example, TCF only hires female teachers. It might need specific training and gender sensitisation for teachers to be able to understand boys and address some of their concerns.

In our society, boys interact with society more than girls. For many girls, the daily routine revolves around school and home. For boys, peer groups are more important as after school hours they usually have more freedom to go out and interact with friends. This interaction can be positive but can also set off peer pressure dynamics. In many societies, these are linked to delinquency, drug use and even violence. It underscores the need for counselling programmes for boys.

The gender gap, though narrowing, still exists and requires attention. Given the social returns of educating girls, their education should be of central focus. But we are also seeing trends where too many boys are dropping out of school and too early. Boys face different dynamics and pressures, compared to girls in our society. We need to have some policy and programming consideration through our education system for supporting boys as well.
