When he first appeared, scarcely a foot long, his brow furrowed with loose wrinkles, as if he bore all the cares of the world upon him, Rufus looked like a bloodhound on an extremely reduced scale. Then he grew and grew longitudinally and emerged from the process as a dachshund of highly respectable pedigree and a pleasing brown color.
