Sitting down and talking is a waste when one or both parties are intractably arrogant and brutally selfish. Why is is there war? Hitler sat and talked with Chamberlin. Wow. Still Dunkirk happened. And before that the Sudetenland. The whole League of Nations talked, today the whole UN talks. Talk is not of itseld magicly curative! Proper behavior, learning from generation to generation for many generations, moral guidelines, fear of G-d: individual and cultural are all necessary. War is hell. But man is selfish and arrogant. War can be the only available remedy. Sad and tragic, but mankind's survival does depend on destroying killer beasts in the field and urbs, and killer beasts have at times come to encompass a whole culture of fellow humans: the culture or enough of it becomes a danger to mankind or just a neighboring culture. In which case: war.
