A good idea is the most important thing a medical writer can have. It can come to you in a variety of ways. One might be as a result of a discussion with colleagues, as happened to me a few years ago. At that time, there had been a sudden drop in students matching in my specialty. Yet, in trying to place an unmatched student in a residency program using phone contacts, I encountered inefficiency and almost indifference-all from residency directors who had vacancies.
