anonymous - KSU and the Wabash Cannonball
Many people do not know is how the Wabash Cannonball became an integral part of Wildcat athletics. In the fall of 1969 the department of music burnt down. Every piece of music in the building was destroyed. The only thing that was salvaged was what was in the band director's brief case. That included a piece of music titled the Wabash Cannonball. With an upcoming football game and no music, that left only one thing to do. The band members played the song loud and often.

E.H.S. Bailey - History of Rock chalk Jayhawk KU
The university's science club first adopted the chant in 1886, when chemistry professor E. Bailey and his colleagues were returning by train to Lawrence after a conference. During their travel, they discussed a need of a rousing yell. They came up with "Rah, Rah, Jay-hawk, Go KU," repeated three times.

Danny Rubin - Groundhog Day the Movie - Phil
It's the same thing your whole life: "Clean up your room. Stand up straight. Pick up your feet. Take it like a man. Be nice to your sister. Don't mix beer and wine, ever." Oh yeah: "Don't drive on the railroad track."

John Steinbeck - Tom Joad
Then it don't matter. I'll be all around in the dark - I'll be everywhere. Wherever you can look - wherever there's a fight, so hungry people can eat, I'll be there. Wherever there's a cop beatin' up a guy, I'll be there. I'll be in the way guys yell when they're mad. I'll be in the way kids laugh when they're hungry and they know supper's ready, and when the people are eatin' the stuff they raise and livin' in the houses they build - I'll be there, too.

John Steinbeck - Ma Joad
Well, Pa, a woman can change better'n a man. A man lives sorta - well, in jerks. Baby's born or somebody dies, and that's a jerk. He gets a farm or loses it, and that's a jerk. With a woman, it's all in one flow, like a stream - little eddies and waterfalls - but the river, it goes right on. Woman looks at it thata way.

Socrates - Today's Generation
The children now love luxury; they have bad manners, contempt for authority; they show disrespect for elders and love chatter in place of exercise. Children are now tyrants, not the servants of their households. They no longer rise when elders enter the room. They contradict their parents, chatter before company, gobble up dainties at the table, cross their legs, and tyrannize their teachers.
